Movies, Games, Books... oh my!

Where oh where has the Mad Man been, where or where can he be!?

Well... I've been busy. Busy writing my book if you can believe it. I've written more in the last month then I have in the last year. Funny thing about writing a book. I mean, REALLY writing a book. For the longest time I've read "how to's" by famous authors who say things like "the characters take me where they want to go." While I understood what that meant on the surface, I never experienced it. Until now.

Having made a true mind set change in getting the sucker down on paper (i.e., not going back editing every detail), and really committing myself (crap or get off the pot scenario) - has made all the difference. When I sit down to write every day... actually, that's not correct. I've found I have my own way of writing - in between sets while I'm working out at night. Thus, I'm usually standing at my laptop, workout gloves on, banging away like mad, listening to the 150+ song soundtrack that I put together. Ask Fran about it sometime... apparently it's quite the scene.

But I digress... when I write, a bizarre stream of consciousness takes over. The characters become real, even the incidental ones, and I become an onlooker to the events in their world. I almost never know what they're going to do or say. It just... unfolds. And I gotta tell ya, it's an absolutely amazing experience.

Anywho, that's what I've been most busy with over the last month, and I will continue to be wrapped up in this virtual literary world I'm creating for the foreseeable future. This story, which has been gestating for upwards of 6 years now, is turning into a rather epic one. It's getting done this year. My blog will likely become something of a place for me to update my progress. I wish I could tell you all more, and maybe at some point I'll drop some bits and pieces here and there. But for now... I'm not quiet ready for the reveal. Fran (and my folks, if they managed to get around to it yet) are the only one's who have read it thus far.

Moving on...

The second half of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica is in full swing. Finally got all caught up on one of the most riveting shows on television. Forget the cheesy 1978 (has it been that long?) series, this re-imagined version is absolutely fantastic television. This ain't your daddy's BSG! It's a very human drama that happens to be set in outer space. Dark, gritty, real character driven stories with absolutely brilliant writing and equally stellar acting.

Thankfully this isn't on one of the lame duck networks where quality isn't a factor for being a hit. At some point the networks will fold as more and more people head to cable because they will get sick and tired of the formulaic crap (i.e., Dancing with the Stars, Nanny 911, etc. and so on) that somehow gets green lit, and the good ones get yanked before they can get past the first episode (Smith, Kidnapped, Firefly, John Doe, etc.).

Speaking of good TV... the rumor flying around the Internet has Matthew McConaughey taking up the role of Magnum, P.I.. How cool is that? Read all about it here (and you should, there's more tidbits - like who is playing Higgins, Rick, and T.C.) if ya want more info. I totally dug Magnum back in the day when Selleck was the man, and I think Double M is the perfect pick for the role!

And how about Jack Bauer?

Games, games and more games... for those of you who read this blog with any frequency you know my penchant for massive multiplayer games. In particular, those from NCsoft. Well, right now they have 14-day free trials going for two of their games. Go here to grab a set of wheels and give Auto Assault a spin; go here to strap on the spandex to give City of Heroes (my fave game of all time) a try! One last NCsoft game factoid: looks like they're still looking for Beta Testers for their new massive multiplayer game, Tabula Rasa. Go here to sign up, but be sure you have a hefty rig.

One more thing before I bug out... in the 20th year of the great Highlander franchise - it ain't dead yet! Visit Highlander: The Source for all latest info, but there appears to be a new movie in the works, along with a video game. All I can say is... it's about time!

More to come...
